The curious nature of interaction: beyond click

The IADT MSc in UX class has been exploring the dimensions of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with lecturer Catherine Friend. We’ve looked at current modes of dialogue (touch, voice, gesture, and so on) and what might be coming next.

Here’s an intriguing book I’ve long been fond of. It explores the notion of how curious gestures adopted by users to overcome digital friction offer UX design opportunities:

Curious rituals: digital gestures of tomorrow; and a few from yesterday

Some of the thoughts have already been implemented (the book is from 2012). However, it’s worth a look. The COVID19 pandemic offers opportunities for revisiting some of the gesture and non-touch interactions.
